Please join us Sunday, June 25, from 4PM to 7PM in Shelby Park for a neighborhood picnic. The picnic will be at the Mission Pavilion, which is the circular pavilion just off the lake.
The board will provide BBQ and drinks, so please bring a side dish to share. We hope this will be a casual afternoon of sharing, games, and getting to know our neighbors. We ask that you please RSVP to historicedgefieldneighbors.com so that we have enough BBQ for everyone. The Historic Edgefield Neighbors Board met at 6PM on Tuesday, May 30. The following topics were discussed:
New yard signs to announce meetings are posted around the neighborhood. The board ordered six yard signs to help promote the bi-monthly business meetings. The signs and stands cost $215. Various neighbors volunteered to place the signs in their yards, so neighbors should see them around Edgefield. We have one more to place in a strategic location, so the board will ask another neighbor living at a busy intersection. Broken street sign on 7th and Fatherland. Someone driving a stolen vehicle ran down the street sign in a police chase. The board is waiting on the police report for the purposes of filing insurance: Sean Alexander has the information, but it's not clear that insurance will cover it since it was a stolen car; Sean also has the blades. The board needs to clarify the process from previous experiences with Bob and Hibah. Jerry Fannin offered to help once we get the police report to start the filing process and have an estimate. We are not sure yet how much this will cost but will have to consider how we, as a board, sustain these repairs and replacements. Pending conversation: what is the viability and sustainability of the signs? Finding ways to track and encourage more neighborhood dues. The board needs to decide a stronger plan for recruiting and tracking neighborhood dues. Chris is going to set up better tracking to support the process going forward and working with Jenny – including transitioning bank account and process from Hibah. We also need to leverage the social meetings to collect dues and figure out a plan to get a payment method for credit cards. Upcoming social meetings: On June 25, we will have a neighborhood picnic at Shelby Park at 4PM. We need to remind people about dues and notify people about the Night Out Against Crime. On June 27, there will be a board meeting for internal planning. During that meeting, the board will finalize board committees and roles, as well as prepare for August new board members/continuing board members We will have July 25 business meeting and an August 29 Ice Cream Social. On August 1, Night Out Against Crime will be held in East Park. We are considering setting up a table for the neighborhood association. Denise Downs is also hosting a table for East Nashville baseball. Lois suggested we should have neighbors volunteer to make balloon animals or paint faces. General Discussions:
Board Members: Chris Lucas, Sherne-Marie McMillan, Randall Gilberd, Lois Layne, Anderson Williams, and Jenny Alexander Guests: Brandon Dyce, Gracie Porter, Terry Dorsey Please make plans to join us Tuesday, May 30, for our next neighborhood business meeting. In addition to our regular agenda items, we will have a special presentation on Envision Cayce.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION: ENVISION CAYCE Also, as part of our meeting, Edgefield neighbors will receive an update on Envision Cayce: Jim Harbison, the executive director of MDHA, will share updates and answer questions about the work of Envision Cayce. If you aren't familiar with Envision Cayce, here are a few bits of info:
We hope you will join us! With an interest in keeping our neighbors up-to-date on key issues that impact Edgefield and our immediate surroundings, the Board has committed to regularly bringing in guest speakers for our meetings. Our Envision Cayce update is this month’s special presentation. If you have ideas or topics of interest, we welcome them. See you at the meeting! Historic Edgefield Neighbors hosted its annual Newcomers Brunch on Saturday, April 22, at Teresa Dunleavy and Matt Schultz's lovely home. (Thank you again for hosting, Teresa and Matt!) More than 40 neighbors attended the brunch, and the event offered a wonderful opportunity for the HEN community to welcome our newest neighbors. Below are a few photos from the event. If you weren't able to attend, please join us for our next neighborhood meeting at East Park Community Center on Tuesday, May 30, at 7:00PM. On Wednesday, April 19, all Edgefield neighbors are invited to a special meeting to learn more about the proposed development of two properties at the corner of 9th and Russell. The meeting will take place at East Park Community Center at 6:30PM.
Councilman Brett Withers requested the meeting so developer Lee Mollette can present a proposal for the two properties owned by the church at the corner of 9th/Russell. From what we understand, six new townhouses are being proposed for the parking lot on the northeast corner of 9th/Russell as a means of funding renovations for a potential adaptive reuse of the church at the northwest corner. If you are concerned about this redevelopment, then please attend the meeting. Councilman Withers has said that, "it is in the neighborhood's long-term interest to start a discussion about what kind of an adaptive reuse of the church properties (taken together) the neighborhood will support.” If you have any questions, please email either Lois Layne, Historic Edgefield, at loislayne42@gmail.com or Brett Withers, Metro Council, at brett.withers@nashville.gov. We look forward to seeing you there! |
