Minutes: January 2020 HEN Meeting

The Historic Edgefield Neighbors met on Tuesday, January 28, at East Park Community Center. The following are the high-level minutes from the discussion:
 
Police Report - Sergeant Fisher
Data back to November 26
  • 29 incidents total within the Edgefield boundaries
  • Bank robbery at 10th and Woodland: arrest made within a couple of days
  • 3 personal robberies
    • 800 block of Main - arrest made
    • 7th and Main - no arrests made
    • Nobles parking lot - no arrests made
  • 500 Main Street aggravated assault - attempted car theft at the Citgo
  • 3 residential burglaries
    • 900 block of Russell - broke window, grabbed car keys, stole car - victim was at home
    • Storage unit was broken into from within an adjacent unit
    • House under construction - mental health issues with the suspect, police trying to get help
  • 13 thefts from vehicles - 9/13 were forced entries - busted windows
    • One handgun stolen, two shotguns - people busting windows in bulk looking for guns
    • East Nashville in 2019 had around 60 guns taken from cars
  • 1 vehicle theft off of South 6th Street

  • One day training and networking opportunity for neighbors and neighborhoods
  • Sessions on schools and neighborhoods, Beautification, Youth engagement and organizing
  • Panel Discussion: “Toward a More Responsive Metro Government”
  • Also launching a Zoning and Planning School in late summer/early fall, 4 week class
 
Announcements - Brett Withers
  • Mayor is holding transportation listening sessions, seeking community engagement in those sessions - East Nashville, Thursday, February 27, @ Studio 615 on Broadmoor
  • nashville.gov -> transportation: there is a survey that can be completed on transportation
  • Neighborways effort along Fatherland - had a good turnout at the feedback session - follow up with Brett for ideas, info, follow up - Chris Lucas is the Edgefield stakeholder representative
 
10th and Fatherland Proposed Development
  • There is no formal plan for the site yet - shared some general site plans
  • Building Ideas Architecture firm
  • Danielle Rice and her dad own the property - were the builders of the townhouses next door - Danielle resides in those townhouses
  • Current concept: Two story mixed use along 10th and turns the corner, transitioning to 1-2 houses onto Fatherland
  • Neighbor concerns with parking, traffic - Key discussion on the drive/entry to the parking being on Fatherland as currently designed versus 10th which would protect the neighborhood
