On Sunday, August 26, Historic Edgefield Neighbors met for their annual ice cream social and board elections. A large gathering of residents were on hand for the event, and here are the outcomes of the board elections:
Board Elections:
Also, the following list includes our continuing board members and officers: Lois Layne, president (2017-2020); Jim Damato (2017-2020); Terri Dorsey (2017-2020); Brandon Dyce (2017-2020); Phillip Hill (term 2017-2020); Chris Lucas (2016-2019); and Steve O’loughlin (2017-2020). Board Retirement: Sherne Marie McMillan (2015-2018) is retiring from the board. We appreciate her many contributions to the neighborhood, which include organizing a block party, hosting the newcomers brunch, and helping with the HEN booth at Night Out Against Crime. Thank you so much, Sherne Marie! Next HEN Meeting: Our next neighborhood meeting is September 25 at East Park Community Center, from 7-8PM. The preliminary agenda includes: Metro Council report with CM Withers; crime update from MNPD; update on parking; storm drain adoption request; new Warner School liaison, Jonathan Wren; and a street sign repair update. Neighborhood News:
On Monday, August 13, at 6:30PM, there will be a meeting at East Park Community Center on residential permit parking for the 800 and 900 blocks of Russell St.
Council Member Brett Withers has sent letters to all of the residents on those blocks informing them of the meeting and providing a survey form. If you live in those blocks and did not get a letter, contact CM Withers: Brett.withers@nashville.gov. The information about the meeting has also been posted by CM Withers on the Historic Edgefield Facebook page, and his post also was sent to neighbors on the 800 and 900 blocks of Russell for whom the board had email addresses. There will not be a vote at the August 13th meeting. The meeting will focus on providing information and answers to questions on residential permit parking so Russell St. residents can make an informed decision in the future. CM Withers has invited representatives from Public Works and the Mayor’s Office to answer questions. The Residential Permit Parking program is found in Section 12.42.010-110 of the municipal code. Edgefield Neighborhood Meeting
Several neighbors convened on June 26, 2018, at 7PM at East Park Community Center. The following discussions were held during the meeting: Marilyn Greer: VP of the Cayce Residents Association Marilyn thanked neighbors for the donations for the Cayce Easter egg hunt. They had about 500 kids and residents involved. Next month, Cayce is hosting a back to school bash – looking for school supplies, backpacks, etc. If you’re interested in helping, just contact Marilyn: marilyngreer2@gmail.com. The board provided an update on John the Mailman’s retirement party: There were 50+ people, and we raised over $800 for his gift. The party had support from a number of businesses, including Turnip Truck, Sky Blue, and others; those businesses received a gift of thanks from Steve as well. Night Out Against Crime will be August 7 at East Park. Barbara Deck and Marilyn Greer volunteered to set up a table, just a couple of chairs and a display for HEN. Ascend Amphitheater: Please send emails when you hear concerts from the venue: riverfrontparkconcerts@nashville.gov. Crime Update: Commander Imhoff
Church Hotel at 9th and Russell Update The church at 9th and Russell will become a 17 room hotel. There will be parking for employees and guests in the lot across the street. Demo is supposed to start in August – estimating 5-6 months for the renovation. There were neighbor questions about where the demo dumpster will go for that period of time; and will they close down the pay parking lot during renovations? Parking Discussions Update

Other business:
On Saturday, May 5, Historic Edgefield celebrated John Rawls, our long-time mail carrier and friend. Countless neighbors, of all ages, participated in the event, which was graciously hosted by Sky Blue Cafe. Below are a few pictures from the event: SATURDAY, APRIL 21ST // 8:30AM TO 11:30AM
Who’s coming out for our neighborhood spring clean-up?! Bring the kids, family, and friends! We will spend the morning helping each other clean up our alleyways, public spaces, and problem areas! Also, this year, we are so happy to be joining forces with the folks from Edgefield Baptist Church and look forward to working with them. They are expecting around 20 volunteers, which will be awesome! PLANS FOR THE DAY: Meet at Edgefield Baptist Church – 700 Russell Street, on 7th Street side across from Warner School any time between 8:30 and 11:30. Please note the location has moved from the 600 Russell St. address that was listed on the flyer distributed in the neighborhood. We will venture out, hitting our problem areas, and we will pay special to problem spots around Warner School and the church. If you have a truck you are able to use, please let us know. GET A HEAD START:
If you can’t participate Saturday morning, you can still drop your trash by at our staging area, there behind the church on 7th Street before 12:30pm. On Saturday, there will also be complimentary t-shirts available, and litter grabbers on loan from Metro (or purchase for $10). Bring some gloves, a water bottle and don’t forget to wear your sunscreen! See you there! |
